We live in an Age of great changes and even greater dilemmas.
How are we to accommodate our national allegiances and need for security in an increasingly poly-scripted and compressed world, in which borders become meaningless and responsibility for common good has to be pursued with an eye not only on the promontory of our national identity, but on Earth as a whole?
How will we, as individuals and communities, be able to successfully negotiate through our inevitable diverging identities and conflicting belongings?
And, finally, how will we succeed in mastering the already inevitable, permanent proximity to the many types of "Otherness' that claim and occupy space, ideological positions and social roles?
These have been the greatest interrogations that the book, dedicated to identity, otherness and violence is set to address. Whether the future will validate the ideological turning from geographies of difference to maps of poly-chronic and poly-scripted sameness remains to be seen. |
